F A C U L T Y & S T A F F @ OSU Engineering| OSU Engineering Faculty Earn Prestigious Awards, Appointments |
 |
- The Oregon Commission for Women has announced that OSU engineering professor Cherri Pancake is one of three winners of the 2006 Women of Achievement Awards. http://www.gazettetimes.com/articles/2006/08/23/news/community/wedloc05.txt
- Brian Woods, an OSU professor in the Dept. Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics, has been selected for a U.S. Department of Energy Junior Faculty Award. Woods is one of the first awardees of this prestigious and competitive program.
- OSU chemical engineering professor Milo Koretsky was selected for the Joseph J. Martin Award, given for the best paper in the Chemical Engineering Division at the annual American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) meeting. Koretsky's paper discussed a virtual chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactor that he and colleagues developed as a web-based educational tool that simulates thin film processes used in chip fabrication facilities. It offers students a meaningful virtual experience with a process that contains noxious gases, without exposing students to possible safety and environmental consequences.
- Associate Dean of Engineering Chris Bell was elected to a 3-year term on ASEE's Engineering Research Council (ERC) board. The ERC exists to support and enhance research in engineering and applied science in organizations with an educational mission.
- Terri Fiez, director of the OSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, was awarded the prestigious "IEEE Educational Activities Board Major Educational Innovation Award" for her contributions to Platform for Learning through TekBots. The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology.

I N N O V A T I O N S @ OSU Engineering| PC Magazine Names OSU Technology Among World’s “Coolest” |
OSU Engineering has always been known for important research, but it's nice to be told that what you're doing is also cool. That was the case when PC Magazine named transparent integrated circuits one of the "10 Coolest Technologies You've Never Heard Of." "I think we're onto something huge here at Oregon State," says John Wager, OSU electrical engineering professor whose research group developed the world's first transparent circuit, "And other people are beginning to sense that now." | Apperson Hall Renovation Ready to Break Ground in Early October |
The $10 million renovation of historic Apperson Hall is poised to begin in early October, thanks to an additional $1 million gift from Lee and Connie Kearney, who previously contributed the $3 million lead gift for the project. Work on the hall, which will be named in honor of the Kearney's, will restore the historic exterior and create a modern interior featuring a 120-seat auditorium, a central light court, state-of-the-art classrooms, and exposed structural, mechanical, and electrical features that will create an interactive "building-as-teaching-tool" for future students. http://osufoundation.org/news/pressreleases/current/0914_apperson/index.php |
